Usually, my clients become my friends through the process of planning and preparing for their session. It is one of the reasons that I love my job. I love hearing about how their children are doing or how things are with their work. Having this understanding helps me to better plan their session and to capture a clearer picture of their personalities for their family portraits.
Sometimes, it works the opposite way. I have friends who become clients. When we moved back to California, my son Liam was in preschool with Jack. Liam and Jack became best buddies immediately. And through this blonde-headed brotherhood, I became friends with his lovely parents. They are such easy-going and kind-hearted people who make you feel like you have known them forever. Over the past couple of years, they have also kindly referred me to many of their friends who have become some of my favorite and most loyal clients.
So when Sara told me that she wanted me to do their family portraits this year, I was excited and honored to do this for such a sweet family. Selecting location and talking about wardrobe was totally fun because I understood what she was going for. She has also been keeping an eye on my work so she was very familiar with what I do and what I could do for her family. She wanted a natural, park-location, maybe something with a bridge. Originally, we were going to go to one park but when I arrived there was some sort of pumpkin festival going on and the traffic was insane. I quickly rerouted to a different location and luckily caught them before they headed to the other location.
This one turned out to be just perfect for them. Love you guys!
