Overcast Day Portraits

A lot of people think that bright sunny days are the best days to photograph. Depending on what you are photographing and where you are photographing, this could be true. I tend to enjoy the slightly overcast days to photograph my portrait sessions especially if there isn’t any open shade. Hazy days actually make my job a little bit easier because I do not have to spend time adjusting settings in camera or on my off camera flash to compensate for harsh shadows that may be falling onto my clients. I see clouds as a giant softbox!

It just so happens that these are some of the easiest people to work with. I have known them for years. Our kids are friends AND it was a nice overcast day. The colors in the field were so soft and mountains were gently brushed with shadows. It all really worked to make my clients stand out and look awesome. I love it when all things work to make my job simple.

I have photographed at this location many times and each time I go, it looks a little bit different. Sometimes the grass is short and brown. Sometimes it’s tall and green. And once in a while it is dirt. But on this day, it was exactly how I wanted it to be to help make my clients look amazing.

Enjoy!
