Last spring, one of my friends tipped me off to an amazing field. She took her boys out there and let them run around and play and explore. She also posted a few snapshots on facebook. When I saw this field, I immediately started crafting an image in my head. This field sits at the foot of beautiful mountains and blooms with a sea of yellow wild flowers. The flowers are only alive for a short time, so when they are present, that is the time to go photograph.
I dragged my kids out of the house on a dreary Saturday morning, grabbed my prop bench and a fancy dress and we headed out. The weather was trying not to cooperate with us as it rained on our drive down there. But thankfully, it stopped just moments before we arrived. I set up my bench, threw the dress on my daughter and tossed her in the field and created my vision.
This is Addie’s field {2011}. This hangs as a 20×30 canvas with a frame by The Organic Bloom on my living room wall. I just love it. Grandma had to have one, too.
Knowing that this field only blooms for a short time, it seemed fitting to make Addie’s field photo an annual event. With so little rain this year, it has taken the field a very long time to wake time. I wouldn’t even say it is totally ‘ready’, but it is green again and gorgeous anyways. So, in the light sprinkling rain, I decided that today was the day.
Props, dress, baby girl loaded. {Vintage steamer trunk and custom dress from Etsy were specifically purchased for this year’s vision.}
Props in field, baby girl dressed, my pants and shoes soaking wet. All worth it. Now I just have to decide where this one will go. And I look forward to what we will create next year and the next year and the next year.
